Tom Watkins, President of Murray McMurray Hatchery, joins the APPPA Breeder Live program to talk about ways to manage your breeding flock for fall hatching success. Many pastured poultry growers would like to purchase fall chicks or early spring pullets, but availability standard-bred birds can be limited.

Many heritage and standard-bred poultry breeders hatch in the spring and everything fizzles out by late summer. However, there's a market demand for chicks year round, and there's a market demand for pullets in the spring, which means those birds have to hatch in the fall.

Tom will share tips that small-scale breeders can use to extend their hatching season and meet the growing fall chick/spring pullet demand for heritage birds.

This installment of our monthly Breeder Live program will be streamed to YouTube and will be available for non-members to watch live. However, you must register in order to receive the link to watch live.

Format

The hour long program will be divided into two sections. Part 1 will include a 20 or 30 minute presentation. Part 2 will be an open Q&A where we Tom answers your questions.

When you register, you will receive a link to YouTube to view the live stream that can be viewed on your phone, tablet, or computer from a web browser.
